It is Fair Entry Time!

 

Entry’s open onMay 1and close on June 1. June 2-15 you will need to come into the Extension Office, pay a $5 late fee per person and have us enter your exhibits. No entries accepted after June 16th.

 

Fair Book

 

Fair books have been sent out with club leaders, one for each family. You may also pick one up in the Extension Office or download just the 4-H section from our website. https://fergus.msuextension.org/The 4-H Fair Schedule is on page 31, Static (Non Animal) entry information is on pages 32-41 and Animal entry information is on pages 42-55. It is very important that read the schedule and the introductory pages in those sections, plus the information for your specific entry’s- before you begin your online entries.

Printed instructions have been sent out with club leaders for each family, you can pick up a copy at the Extension Office, they are available on our website- or they are attached to this newsletter. Please read all the instructions carefully before you begin entries.

 

4-H Congress Meeting

If you are interested in attending Montana State 4-H Congress at MSU Bozeman, July 13-16, or would like to learn more about Congress please attend this meeting.

Montana 4-H Congress provides youth from across the state an opportunity to come together on the Montana State University campus in Bozeman for four days and participate in an event like no other. Congress offers both youth and adults a venue in which to learn, be challenged, and most of all, have a great time with their peers. Montana 4-Hers have been attending an event like Congress for decades. Congress has become an important tradition and is the signature event for the Montana 4-H Program. Its purpose is to provide a safe and fun environment for youth to experience all that 4-H Congress has to offer including: contests, workshops, entertainment, social events, and much more.

At Pheasant Tails Bed and Bistro- just outside of Lewistown

$60.00 Registration Fee

For all 4-H Member 13 and older (as of June 1).

Join the Extension Staff and 4-Hers from Fergus, Petroleum and Judith Basin County for a few relaxing days at this beautiful location. Workshops will be fun and interactive and provide you with priceless skills as you navigate the world of employment and entrepreneurship.

 

Cloverbud Day Camp-Under the Sea

Registration is due June 7- form is attached

This is a fun filled day for all 4-H Clover buds. Registration form is attached.

 

4-H Junior Camp-Incredible American Adventure

Registration is due June 9- form is attached

Junior 4-H Members, 8 to 11 (as of June 21), buckle up and get ready for an exciting trip across America!

 

4-H Records and Workbooks

Remember that your 4-H records should be up to date on pre-fair interview day- July 19 and your required activities should be done in your project books. Your record books should have entries in What I Did-What I Learned, Expenses, (feed records need to be up to date with cost).

 

4-H Food Booth Sign Up

Shift sign up for the 4-H Food Booth will open on June 1 in Sign up Genius. All members, cloverbuds and at least one of their parents should be signed up for a shift by July 1. More information and instructions will be in the June newsletter. Links will be emailed to each family in late May.

 

 

Sheep & Goat Tags Due

 

Sheep and Goat tag pictures and weigh sheets are due back to the office by May 15th. (16th since the 15th is a Sunday)

Please email any pictures to fergus@montana.edu or allison.smith11@montana.edu.

You can email tag pictures and a picture of the weigh sheet if you would like or just tag pics and turn in a hard copy of the weigh sheet.

Please make sure any pictures that you send are clear and the tag is visible and readable. Both pictures and weigh sheet need to be turned in, in order be considered ready to go.

Static Committee:

 

The indoor project auction will be held on Thursday, July 28th at 4 PM. Attached to the newsletter are the guidelines for the indoor auction and the intent to sell form. These need to be returned to the office by June 1st.

 

The next static committee meeting will be held on May 24th at 5:15 at the Extension office.

 

Outdoor day is set for June 25th at 9 AM at Eastfork Reservoir. Please register by calling the office and letting Allison know.

 

Horse Committee:

 

Upcoming Horse Clinics:

Reminder: We have two upcoming Horse Clinics in May. Each clinic will begin at 9 with warmup starting  8.  If you are planning on attending one or both of the clinics, please call the office at 406-535-3919 and let us know.

 

May 7th & 8th – Performance Horse Clinics (If you do not have a riding membership at the pavilion, you will need to pay the rider’s fee to the fairgrounds. Our office has scholarship money available for this as well)

The next horse committee meeting will be on Monday, May 9th at 5:30 at the Extension Office.

 

Food Safety for Food Booth:

 

Update and reminder about the food safety certification for the food booth this summer: Sarah sent out a list via email on 4/25/2022 that shows who needs the certification this year. If your name is in the “Needs Food Safety” column then you will need to complete it this year. If you completed the video last year and this document does not reflect that, please let Sarah know and She will get it fixed. It seems that there were some difficulties with the video last year and making sure everyone who completed it was recorded correctly.

 

We will using be the same online platform as last year for the food safety certification. Sarah is updating the video and will send it out with instructions on how to complete it when it is ready. The training will need to be done by July 10th. Please let Sarah know if you have any questions.

 

Tween Trip:

 

Tween Trip Dates: June 14th-16th

 

We will be going to Virginia City for Tween Trip this year. We will visit the Lewis and Clark Caverns and explore Virginia City. The registration fee is $75. Please turn in your registration to the office ASAP to get a spot. The last day to register is June 3rd. We will also be need chaperones to make the trip happen. Please let the office know if you would be willing to chaperone.

 

TQA Class Dates

 

Grass Range: May 25th 2pm at the Fire Hall

Winifred: June 8th 2pm Location TBD

 

Anyone is welcome to come to these classes. If you need a ride from Lewistown, you can contact Cody and ride with him to either location. As of right now there is not an online option available to take. Class will last 1.5hrs. Please contact the office with any questions.

 

Livestock Judging Practice

 

Livestock Judging Practice is every Thursday at 5pm at the Extension Office.

 

4-Hers will learn the basics to the advanced on how to properly judge livestock and what to look for when picking their own animals for fair. Anyone is welcome to come to this class. If you would like to come, all you need to do is show up to the office by 5pm on a Thursday. Please let us know if you would like on the email list. Cody will contact you with any, time changes or cancelations through email so you will have to make sure you are checking that regularly or call the office  to confirm a class.
